BROWNSVILLE - Customs and Border Protection field operations officers arrested a man from Pasadena, Texas, for allegedly deserting the U.S. Army as he attempted to enter the country via Gateway International Bridge, officials said.

Antonio Rodriguez, 29, was arrested Sunday at 1:56 p.m. as he attempted to enter the country on foot, according to an agency press release.

The arrest took place when Rodriguez approached the inspection area and the field operations officer noticed there was a possible arrest warrant for military desertion, the document stated. Rodriguez was sent to a secondary inspection area where his identity was confirmed and was arrested.

Rodriguez was turned over to Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies who transported him to Carrizalez Rucker Detention Center pending his transfer to military custody, the release stated.
