SAN DIEGO, Texas — A fugitive convicted rapist has been captured a week after he escaped a South Texas jail.
A police officer in the small South Texas town of San Diego spotted a man Tuesday night who matched the description of Abel Morin Jr. The 26-year-old Jim Hogg County Jail fugitive man fled while about 30 officers from different agencies converged on the neighborhood. After a house-to-house search, officers found Morin hiding in an abandoned house and took him into custody.
Officials say Morin dashed through an unlocked door at the Jim Hogg County Jail in Hebbronville on February 5th while being moved between cells. His escape came one day after he was sentenced to life in prison for sexual assault, kidnapping and burglary in the rapes of a mother and daughter in Duval County.
Authorities have said Morin is a member of the Texas Mexican Mafia prison gang.
