Tax offices to close due to upgrades

BROWNSVILLE — Branch Cameron County tax offices will be closed Wednesday and on Feb. 14 for upgrading of Texas department of Motor Vehicles’ computer equipment.
The improved equipment will speed motor vehicle transactions, Cameron County Tax Assessor-Collector Tony Yzaguirre said.
“We’re pleased about receiving this new equipment to better serve our customers,” Yzaguirre said. “Of course anyone who has gone through a computer upgrade at their workplace knows you have to take out the old to install the new and that means we are anticipating some down time when we will not be able to process motor vehicle transactions.
The first replacements are scheduled at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, he said. The San Benito, La Feria and Rio Hondo branch tax offices will be closed that day.
On Feb. 14, the Brownsville Westside, Brownsville Southmost, Port Isabel and Los Fresnos branch tax offices will be closed all day, Yzaguirre said.
Equipment at the tax office in the Cameron County Judicial Building, 964 E. Harrison St. in Brownsville, will not be upgraded until later, so that office will not be closed during the next week, Yzaguirre said. That equipment will be upgraded in about 30 to 60 days, he said.
