Patron of the Arts features award-winning soprano

BROWNSVILLE - The University of Texas at Brownsville/Texas Southmost College will host award-winning soprano Lily Zhang in concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Science, Technology and Engineering Building Lecture Hall.

 

Zhang’s performance is part of the Patron of the Arts program. She will be accompanied by Richard Urbis, pianist and UTB/TSC professor of fine arts.

Zhang is an artist in residence and professor at Sichuan Conservatory of Music and travels throughout the United States and China as an international music ambassador. She debuted at the 2001 Shanghai Opera House during the Shanghai Spring International Festival.

October begins with a concert by the UTB/TSC Master Chorale at 3 p.m., Sunday at Sacred Heart Church on Sixth Street and Elizabeth Street in Brownsville. Admission is $3. Next spring, the group will travel and sing at the Vatican in Rome. In 2007, the members performed during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in Ireland.

  Friday, Oct. 17-Marcin Dylla, Polish guitarist will perform at 8 p.m. in the SETB Lecture Hall

 Sunday, Oct. 19-Kenneth Saxon, pianist will perform at 3 p.m. at the SETB Lecture Hall

 Tuesday, Oct. 21-Richard Urbis, pianist will perform at 8 p.m. in SETB Lecture Hall

Thursday, Oct. 23-Faculty and Students Multi-Piano Concert will perform at 8 p.m. in the SETB Lecture Hall

 

 

 

Saturday, Oct. 25 - Eva del Carmen Medina Amezcua, a Mexican pianist, will perform at 8 p.m. in the SETB Lecture Hall

Sunday, Oct. 26- Goodwin Harpsichord Celebration Concert perform at 3 p.m. in the SETB Lecture Hall.

Saturday, Oct. 18,-The "Talent and Incentive" exhibit continues at the Art Gallery in Rusteberg Hall. The exhibit closes Saturday, Oct. 18.

 Tuesday, Oct. 21-"Self Portrait: Inner Voices" opens at the Art Gallery at Rusteberg Hall. The exhibit closes Saturday, Nov. 15.

The gallery is located across the street from the amphitheater on Gorgas Drive and is open from 1:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Thursday and 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday.
