Community Forum: Readers' complaints don't amount to much

Editor:
As I read a recent letter about a facet of police brutality in Harlingen (in reference to speeding tickets), I thought this was by some young innocent Anglo person. These things are so common in the world of non-white people. I was surprised to find the complainant was R. Ochoa from Santa Rosa.

Another similar letter was from L.L. Webb of Arroyo City, who complained of widespread law enforcement corruption in Cameron County. What I have to say to both is, "Get over it!" Your complaints are just a microcosm of American culture.

I dare say there's more to complain about in our world. These complaints wouldn't make a crack in a glasshouse, no matter how pure of heart you are.

Child's parents, not the judge, at fault
Editor:

Judge Gustavo Garza is doing a terrific job in his judgment of dealing with today's youth.

The only reason the boys and girls come to his court is because the parents have not properly educated and trained their children to respect schools and laws.

Those parents were given the choice of a fine of money or punishment with a paddle. They are the ones who took the choice to use the paddle, not the judge. They are the ones who prefer not to invest money to teach the youth to not do wrong.

If the parents had done their job of disciplining their children and teaching respect and obedience, they would not have been in the position that they were in before the judge.

The parents that are suing Judge Garza have failed to do their job of properly teaching their children respect and law-abiding training.
That is why they are in court now. The parents are the ones who failed to discipline their children and to believe in God and the Holy Bible. For their information, read and abide by Proverbs 13:24: "He who spares his rod hates his son. But he who loves him disciplines him promptly."

When I was in junior high school and a student broke the rules, they were sent to the gym and the coach had a paddle with holes drilled in it. The disciplined student had to drop his trousers and got hit with the paddle several times, leaving a red circle on his bottom.

Thank God I had good parents who taught me respect and to obey school rules. Therefore, I never received any harsh punishment from school officials, but those who did learned a lesson and grew up to be professional law-abiding students.

Thank God for Judge Garza. Keep up the good work and the Valley will be blessed. When you win this case, I hope all expenses will have to be paid by the parents, not the taxpayers.

The judge should file a counter-suit against all parents who sue him for damages to his professional reputation. We should set up a defense fund to protect Judge Garza. I would give $100 to start a fund for his lawsuit against the parents who sued him for doing his job according to God's Word.
