Capitalists provide nothing to country
To the Editor:
The USA is in very bad shape politically and economically today, and it will never get better unless our residents are willing to take a new look at how we got into this mess and how we can get out of it.
Everyone, without exception, who is opposed to our current government policies and supports capitalism does not understand either economics or politics and is part of the problem. They contribute nothing to the improvement of our country.
The liberal wing of government and the reactionary wing are supported by two different groups of capitalists through their lobbyists. The reactionary wing has a lot more money and media control and is much more dangerous at this time.
Free enterprise is a minuscule portion of capitalism. Large capitalists are afraid of classic free enterprise. They want and get all kinds of special favors from the government while those of us in the working class carry them on our backs. Corruption is rampant in both wings of capitalism.
The only proper functions of government are improving the life of those living under it, keeping infrastructure in repair, and defense. Defense does not mean imperialistic adventures all over the world.
The reactionary wing wants to return to some kind of imaginary "good old days." It won’t happen. There is no reverse gear on time. Anyone who pushes this philosophy is trying to con people.
There are at least 81 of our congressional representatives touring Israel while I write this. Blake Farenthold’s Brownsville office thought he was on this tour when I called. They did not know who was funding this junket. I told them it was the American Israeli Political Action Committee. AIPAC is a political lobby for Zionists and Zionists are the modern equivalent of the old White Citizens Councils, but Zionists have international influence. They are uncritical supporters of Israel.
Israel in its present form is a pariah state and needs to be structurally changed. Neither our congressional representatives nor anyone else has any business supporting Israel. There might be some people out there who will accuse me of being anti-Semite, but save your breath. There are an ever-increasing number of Jews who support neither Zionism nor Israel.
Question everything and then act. Understanding politics and economics is more than taking a sound bite and running with it. You actually have to think.
