Wings blow big lead in 8-6 loss
Comments 0 | Recommend 0EDINBURG - Brock Nehls' Harlingen WhiteWings debut Saturday against the Edinburg Coyo-tes was bittersweet.
While his first outing started out well enough as he retired the first eight hitters he faced and didn't allow a hit until there were two outs in the fourth, he ended up with a no-decision in an 8-6 loss.
The slumping Wings, who are in dead last in the United League standings, lost despite taking a 6-0 lead after five innings.
The WhiteWings (17-42) got on the board against Carlos Jan in the third.
With one out, David Fowler walked and stole second. Kevin Griffin followed with an RBI-single. One out later, David Cardona singled and Ryan Fox hit a two-run double to make it 3-0 Wings.
In the fifth, Cardona led off with a single and Fox reached on an error. Joel Gonzalez singled. Cardona was going to hold at third, but when the ball was bobbled in left, Cardona scored. Trey Hendrciks followed with a two-run double to make it 6-0 Harlingen.
But the Coyotes (27-33) got something going against Nehls in the sixth scoring four runs to make it 6-4.
They then added another run in the fifth and took the lead in the eighth en route to the victory.
