Colts put CB Jackson on IR; R Gonzalez has surgery

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Colts suddenly have some serious injury issues in the defensive secondary.

The team said Friday that cornerback Marlin Jackson will miss the rest of the season after injuring his left knee in practice. Veteran cornerback Kelvin Hayden is expected to be sidelined for the next three to four weeks with a knee sprain during last week's 18-14 win over the San Francisco 49ers.

And strong safety Bob Sanders is out indefinitely after he injured his left elbow against the 49ers last weekend.

The Colts (7-0) host Houston (5-3) this Sunday in an AFC South clash. Houston quarterback Matt Schaub comes into the game with 16 touchdown passes so far this year and a red-hot receiver in Andre Johnson (697 yards receiving). The Texans, however, lost tight end Owen Daniels to a season-ending right knee injury this week.

The Colts placed Jackson on injured reserve after tearing his ACL on Wednesday during a non-contact drill. He had been rehabbing the knee after he was hurt against Seattle on Oct. 4.

Sanders, the 2007 NFL defensive player of the year, had just returned to the team. He missed all of training camp, all the preseason and the first month of the regular season after surgery on his right knee. He is expected to have elbow surgery on an unspecified date.

The Colts also said receiver Anthony Gonzalez underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Thursday to clean out loose particles. It's not clear when he'll resume playing.

The Colts had been anticipating a return by Gonzalez, who hasn't played since spraining ligaments in his right knee during the season opener. He caught 57 passes for 664 yards last season.
