Valley students visit the Ivy League

BOSTON — Area students will touch down today after a four-day Ivy League college tour in Boston.

Students from McAllen, Edinburg, PSJA, Weslaco, Mission, Donna, Mercedes and La Joya visited MIT, Harvard and Brown University.

James Alegria of Mercedes High School was one of the 41 students participated in the trip.

“One thing is for sure, if I could live here I would,” Alegria said. “I like the diversity, and the restaurants here are pretty cool.”

Alegria will be a junior at Mercedes next year.

He said he plans to major in cinematography and directing when he attends college.

Alegria got the chance to talk to Harvard and Brown University students about film classes and what it took to get into the schools.

“I like how the Texas Graduate Center is actually helping a lot of us kids from the Valley,” Alegria said. “Taking us to other schools outside of Texas to show us something different is great.”
