New Harlingen assistant city manager coming from McAllen

HARLINGEN — Carlos Alberto Sanchez will be bringing his expertise to Harlingen following a lengthy stint as public works director for the City of McAllen.

The City Commission this week approved his hiring for the job of assistant city manager for external services.

“External services involve public works, parks, golf course, facilities, maintenance,” Sanchez said. “That’s pretty much in line with what my background is in public works in McAllen.

“I’ve dealt with the sanitation department, fleet maintenance department, streets and drainage,” he added. “So it’s very similar to what I’ve been overseeing in McAllen.”

Sanchez, who will assume his new duties Aug. 8, is a public engineer with a civil engineering degree from Colorado State University and a masters in business administration from the University of Texas San Antonio.
