Los Fresnos woman in ambulance, tractor-trailer crash laid to rest

LOS FRESNOS — Funeral services were held yesterday for a 50-year-old Los Fresnos woman, four days after a collision of a tractor-trailer and the ambulance that was taking her to a hospital in Brownsville.

An attorney for the family of Elizabeth Ruiz said he does not believe an autopsy will be performed.

She was pronounced dead at the hospital. The cause of her death was not immediately clear.

Ruiz had some type of heart condition was being taken to the hospital from her home by ambulance at the time of the accident, attorney John Flood said.

“The EMS had called (the hospital) and informed them she was stable and she was being transported out of an abundance of caution,” Flood said.

He said the Ruiz family “wants to understand exactly what happened.”

The accident happened Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of FM 511 and FM 1847, known as Paredes Line Road.
