RIO HONDO — A seagoing barge loaded with benzene that was stranded at the Rio Hondo lift bridge has moved on along the Arroyo Colorado.
As of yesterday morning, the barge was no longer stalled at the bridge.
For two days the barge and towboat pushing it upstream on the Arroyo Colorado to the Port of Harlingen were stalled at Rio Hondo because the bridge wouldn’t lift.
Walker Smith, interim port director, said the state transportation department was working on the mechanical lift bridge. He said he has been told it was not related to the major refitting of the bridge scheduled to begin full-bore in September.
No other information on the bridge was available yesterday.
