City encourages joint effort for cleanup

SAN BENITO — The city is hosting a Summer Trash Bash cleanup for residents only.

Between Aug. 29 and Sept. 2, the city is encouraging the community to clean up and fix up their yards.

Residents are encouraged to bring old furniture, appliances and large items to the city service center.

It’s located at 925 W. Stenger and will be open during the Trash Bash from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Homeowners, renters and businesses are encouraged to spend time this summer cleaning up their property to improve the overall appearance of the city.

“This is San Benito residents only. We will check residency to ensure compliance. It is the responsibility of everyone to take care of their homes and businesses,” Public Works Director Adan Gonzalez said.

“We have had complaints of people dumping furniture and debris in vacant lots and of tall grass and weedy lots that could be a danger to neighborhoods. There are ordinances that require property owners to maintain their property,” he said.

Proof of residency is required when dropping off trash. Residents can provide a water bill.
