HARLINGEN — One community that banded together to reach a critical mass received something from their hard work.
The Rancho Grande Estates colonia residents will soon have new streetlights.
Nights without streetlights will be a thing of the past for the many homeowners who live just a short walk from the border.
County Commissioner Gus Ruiz proudly flipped through the pages of a copy of the petition residents of his district signed seeking approval for the streetlights.
Ruiz said members of the colonia attended commissioner court meetings multiple times until they were heard.
“So far it’s one of the biggest projects for the county,” Ruiz said.
