HARLINGEN — Take five minutes and multiply it.
And multiply it, and multiply it, and multiply it … 1,000 times around the world. What do you get?
More than three days of lifting up autism.
You can be part of “Lift Up Autism” today at CrossFit Stamina, 405 N. T St., Suite C&D. Residents are invited to perform a five-minute workout at 10:30 a.m. to raise awareness of autism.
“We are trying to raise awareness about autism and show support to that community,” said Jaclyn Garza, spokesperson for CrossFit Stamina.
“We recognize the fact that the community is growing and we want to raise funds,” Garza said.
CrossFit Stamina members are uniting with 1,000 other gyms around the world, each of which are giving five minutes of their time to raise awareness and drive action for autism, Garza said. Participants in today’s activity do not have to be members of the gym.
The event is free, but donations are accepted. All proceeds will go to the Autism Tree Project and two other foundations that specialize in research and support for families and individuals in the autism community. Those research foundations are: Autism Research Institute and the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism.
