SAN BENITO — Police have charged a San Benito man with sexually assaulting a child.
On Tuesday at 11:34 a.m, 21-year-old Jorge Alberto Herrera Martinez turned himself in to San Benito police.
He is charged with two counts of first-degree felony aggravated sexual assault of a child and three counts of second-degree felony indecency with a child.
The charges are a result of information from a female child victim who made an outcry to a family member in July, police said.
The investigator assigned to the case established sufficient probable cause to obtain multiple warrants from the San Benito Municipal Court, police said. Judge Benjamin Yudesis arraigned Martinez and his bond was set at $700,000.
Martinez was taken to the Cameron County Detention Center. He is still in custody.
