Four Miller Jordan Middle School students recently competed in the Texas Girls’ State Championship Chess Tournament at Sam Houston Elementary in La Feria. The girls earned back-to-back champion honors, defending their title yet again.
As a team, they won first place and are the three-time State Champions. Individually, pictured from left, Reyna Bautista, a 7th grader, is ranked 11th; Angelica Vasquez, an 8th grader, is ranked first as a Co-State Champion, along with three other players; Alexis Del Rio, an 8th grader, is ranked 9th; and Ilse Bautista, an 8th grader, is ranked 5th.
The girls are set to compete in the All Girls’ Nationals Tournament in Chicago, Illinois, in April 2017.
