Coast Guard searches for missing swimmer

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — The Coast Guard has mobilized to find a 22-year-old man who went missing yesterday off the South Padre Island shore, according to a coast guard press release.

Air and boat crews, beach patrol, police and fire department crews were searching the waters off the Bridgeport Condominiums for Mohammed Alsubaie, who was last seen swimming just off the beach, authorities said.

The Coast Guard did not say where he is from. He was wearing yellow swim trunks.

His friends contacted police after they could not locate him, authorities said.

Coast Guard Station South Padre Island sent a response boat crew to search for Alsubaie, and Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi watchstanders launched a helicopter crew, according to the press release.

The Coast Guard is urging members of the community to contact it if they have any information as to the whereabouts of Alsubaie. They may contact the Coast Guard Command Center in Corpus Christi at (361) 939-9393.
