Super Saturday helps students with financial aid applications

BROWNSVILLE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, in collaboration with RGV Focus, will host Super Saturday on Feb. 11 on both the Edinburg and Brownsville campuses.

This event serves as a free one-on-one service to help students fill out federal and state college financial aid forms, like the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA).

Students should bring their Federal Student Aid identification number. Student who do not have an ID number will be assisted in creating one.

Students also will need their parents’ and individual 2015 tax returns with W-2 statements.

The event will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the Tower on the Brownville Campus and at the Visitors Center on the Edinburg Campus.

“In our area, a large majority of our students and families depend on financial aid, and being first-generation college students, they are not familiar with the process of applying for financial aid,” said Jael Garcia, UTRGV associate director of Financial Aid Operations and Community Liaison. “The financial aid process can be complicated and a little intimidating, so we host the Super Saturday event – to provide assistance to students and families in completing financial aid forms and answer any questions that they may have.”
