SAN BENITO — Gone are the days of the simple “hamburger day” option for lunch.
Now, instead, kids have more healthy options for breakfast and lunch.
By keeping up with the latest trends, the San Benito School District Child and Nutrition Program is ensuring all kids are well-nourished.
When given the right tools, food and encouragement, program assistant director Jackie Cruz said children are known to make healthier choices in and out of school.
“What children do learn at school extends to the home. So, the child nutrition program is very important,” Cruz said.
Yesterday, Cruz, also a registered dietitian discussed with the San Benito Chamber of Commerce, the district’s nutrition program during the chamber’s weekly “coffee with” session.
In addition to offering free breakfast and lunch to all students, the program also offers an after-school snack, summer feeding program, catering services and a fresh fruit and vegetables program.
