HARLINGEN — Rio Grande Valley Therapy Pets has scheduled a Pet Partners therapy pet team evaluation day for Saturday, Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Harlingen Cultural Arts Center at 576 ’76 Drive, next to the Harlingen Public Library.
RGV Therapy Pets is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization dedicated to public education of the charitable benefits of therapy pets and to encourage and assist pets and pet owners to become registered therapy pet teams.
Working with your pet as a registered therapy pet team is a rewarding volunteer experience, whether through visits to nursing homes and hospitals, becoming involved with children’s reading programs or many other opportunities.
The evaluations will be conducted by two evaluators licensed by Pet Partners, a national organization that registers and supports therapy pet teams. A $15 donation is requested to help cover expenses.
For individuals and their pets that want to be evaluated, now is the time to prepare.
Pet Partners requires that you complete an online therapy animal handler course in advance (petpartners.org). You must bring the certificate of completion with you to the evaluation.
Sign up for the evaluation is also available on the Pet Partners website.
If you want to learn more about becoming a therapy pet team, to schedule an evaluation or to assist as a volunteer, contact RGV Therapy Pets at rgvtherapypets@hotmail or call Katherine Brookbank at 956-793-0379 or George Cox at 956-873-0218.
