SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — One person was stabbed and three others assaulted yesterday near the site where thousands were attending SPI Bike Fest.
Police are still investigating.
The incident started about noon outside the South Padre Island Convention Centre.
An estimated 4,000 people from throughout the country had converged at the center for Bike Fest.
Lt. Claudine O’Carroll of the SPI Police Department said officers were called to a grassy area outside the convention center.
One man had been treated for contusions and declined to be taken to the hospital.
The stabbing victim and two other assault victims were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police had no motive nor any details about the suspect or suspects, only that they were looking for a man.
“It’s an ongoing investigation,” O’Carroll said. “Treatment and examinations come first.”
She did not believe the four victims were local.
An official with the rally said that in the event’s 23-year history, both on the Island and in Corpus Christi, they have not had any altercations.
“We’ve never had any altercations. This is a family oriented event,” said G.J. Reyna, rally coordinator and a trustee of the Bike Fest.
“There are a lot of children here,”
Bike Fest is a 401(c)3 nonprofit organization.
