Curriculum and finance on agenda at San Benito school meeting

SAN BENITO — Two San Benito school district committees will meet Wednesday to discuss curriculum and finance.

The finance committee meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. Shortly after that, the finance committee will meet.

During the finance meeting, school leaders will discuss the purchase of more laptops for the high school’s career and technology courses.

Last month, the district approved the purchase of 125 laptops or computers on wheels to be used by high school students.

The money, which has already been budgeted for, will come out of the high school’s state funds.

The laptops are expected to cost about $785 each.

Students will be able to access the various learning programs in the already functioning courses, as well as test and use the laptops after school.

In keeping with the district’s five-year strategic plan to upgrade facilities, the committee will discuss replacing the heating, ventilation and air conditioning units for Dr. Cash Elementary School and Dr. Garza Elementary School.

To round out the finance meeting, the school board will discuss scholarships for high school seniors with perfect attendance.

Following the finance meeting, school board members will move into a curriculum committee meeting where they will discuss the 2017-2018 school calendar.

School staff was shown three options for the calendar. The staff was then encouraged to vote on the one they favored. Voting closed yesterday.

The school leaders will also review summer school plans, summer camps and a resolution supporting Education for all Students.
