Two young women are in custody accused of an overnight hit-and-run accident that left five people injured.

South Padre Island police say they received a tip from someone in the community about a dark colored Honda CR-V investigators were looking for in connection to the accident on Gulf Boulevard

Police say they found the vehicle still on the Island and the primary suspect is a 20-year-old woman from Sugarland, Texas, a community near Houston.

“We feel confident that this is the vehicle involved in the accident,” said Chief Randy Smith. “However, the investigation is still ongoing.”

Police said were called to the 4200 block of Gulf Boulevard around 12:40 a.m. and found a number of young people injured.

Three of the victims were in the street with serious injures and two others were on the side of the road and appeared to suffer only minor injuries.

The victims ranged in ages from 16 to 22 years old and were all taken to area hospitals.
