SANTA ROSA — The city will rally once again for the outstanding effort the Mighty Warriors boys basketball team made this season.
The city has organized a parade slated for tomorrow to celebrate the team for reaching the state semi-finals.
“We would like to invite the people from the Rio Grand Valley to our community rally,” said Refugio Rickford, city alderman. “Come and be part of our celebration.”
The parade will begin at 7 p.m. at Santa Rosa High School and end at the Elma E. Barerra Gym.
The City of Santa Rosa and Cameron County will be presenting the Santa Rosa School District with resolutions, for their successful accomplishments with the basketball program.
“We hope to see everyone there,” Rickford said.
The boy’s basketball team raised many eyebrows this season with their run-and-gun high-scoring offense that left teams in the dust.
The Warriors were close to perfect on the court all year. The team lost only three games on the season.
They started the year ranked No. 2 in the state 32-3A and held the rank all season.
Their final loss to Dallas Madison ended their dream season of winning it all.
They were one game away from the state championship in San Antonio’s Alamodome.
Their record for the year was 6-0 in district and 29-3 on the season.
“As a lifelong resident, a Santa Rosa graduate, and now a representative of our great city, we could not be prouder of our basketball team,” said Jaime Quiroga, city alderman.
“We are so proud of our school district and our community for the success we all get to share in every aspect related with our youth, whether it be sports or academics.”
He said making the Final Four is not an easy task at any level, but the Santa Rosa Warriors prove time and time again they belong.
“Therefore, recognition is greatly deserved,” Quiroga said.
