Disney On Ice: Prepare yourself for some magical evenings

Disney on Ice returns to the Rio Grande Valley this week with a few new friends in tow.

“Disney on Ice presents Follow Your Heart” features the debut of Dory and Hank from “Finding Dory” and the characters from Pixar’s “Inside Out.” They’ll be joining Mickey, Minnie, the cast of “Toy Story,” friends from “Frozen,” the princesses and more.

It promises to be a family-friendly adventure.

The magic of the show through the eyes of a child isn’t lost on principal skater Anna Bradshaw.

“I really feel like the show, the incorporation … if I were a child, that would be amazing,” said Bradshaw, who portrays Rapunzel of the “Tangled” adaptation.

Bradshaw was a member of the ensemble in 2016’s “Dare to Dream,” and an understudy for the Rapunzel role, for which she learned aerial silks. The two-time U.S. Figure Skating gold medalist said she found learning the additional skill to be a pretty easy transition.

“We started on the floor. After weeks of training, we transferred onto the ice – slowly.”

Bradshaw is one of about 40 skating actors who perform in the show from all over the world, including Canada, Europe, Australia, South America and Scotland. Because of their grueling travel schedule, she said the group has learned to live out of a suitcase and spend time in a new city each week.

“When you learn to adapt to being on the road, you learn to make (it) homey. You create your comforts,” Bradshaw said. “We get to enjoy the city we’re playing.”

She added, “It’s a great way to see the world.”
