Surfers hang ten at annual Island tourney

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND- Many spectators gathered near the beach to see the young and old ride waves at the annual Surfing Open held last weekend.

“It was a great success,” said Aarin Hartwell, Texas Gulf Surfing Association southern district director. “The weather cooperated and the waves were more than contestable.”

The Beaches were full and many people were interested in the event and organization.

TGSA held its 28th annual surfing tournament at Isla Blanca Park. Surfers from around the state competed in the event.

“Many spectators were especially impressed with the children competing in the contest,” Hartwell said. “They are certainly a sight to be seen.”

The TGSA Surfing Open is sponsored by the SPI Convention And Visitors Bureau.

Hartwell said the association members are looking forward to our 2018 event and open to support from additional sponsorship as well.

“I felt like our TGSA family were happy to be on South Padre Island,” Hartwell said.”It is cumulatively our favorite destination to surf in Texas.”
