LYFORD — Travis Davis has been selected as a Ford Leadership Scholar by the Texas FFA Association.
Davis, a Lyford CISD student, is one of 10 Texas FFA agriculture students selected last month for the 2017-2018 class of Ford Leadership Scholars.
Davis was not available for comment.
The participants are juniors in high school, and are chosen based on six characteristics of leadership: action, relationships, vision, character, awareness and continuous improvement.
The program provides an intense hands-on leadership development experience through community service projects, apprentice-type scenarios and interaction with nationally-recognized leaders.
Davis and the other scholars will have a tremendous opportunity to grow as leaders through the training they will receive, the relationship with their mentor, and the exposure they will have to key business and industry leaders.
After completing the program, past participants will be targeted as candidates for internships in the agriculture industry and policy development. Ford Scholars alumni will be promoted to industry leaders throughout Texas and during the Texas legislative session.
“I believe the Ford Leadership Scholars program provides a unique opportunity for FFA members to develop their potential to lead a life of influence and for the FFA to create a legacy of leadership for communities across Texas,” said Austin Large, Texas FFA executive director.
The program is funded by an endowment established by the Ford Motor Company, Texas Ford dealers and the Texas FFA Foundation to enhance the leadership opportunities of the Texas FFA members.
Each student will receive a $1,000 scholarship upon completion of the program.
The Texas FFA Association is an agricultural youth leadership organization that has operated as an integral part of the state’s agricultural education curriculum since 1929.
