HARLINGEN — Chick-fil-A will be welcoming some new neighbors.
The development on South 77 Sunshine Strip continues to expand, with sandwich maker Jimmy John’s and AT&T set to open new facilities at the site formerly known as Sun Valley Motor Hotel.
Both Jimmy John’s and AT&T should open for business sometime this fall or early next year.
“We now have our leases signed with Jimmy John’s and AT&T,” said Jack Jennings, director of sales and leasing-South for Lockard Development of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
“They will go in a three-tenant building on Lot 3 next to Chick-fil-A,” Jennings said via email yesterday.
Construction crews were prepping the site yesterday, which is between Chick-fil-A and Oklahoma Avenue.
Jennings said in March the building which will house Jimmy John’s, AT&T and yet-to-be-named tenants would offer 5,000 square feet of space.
Previous reports of a dalliance with Dunkin Donuts for the Sun Valley Square development didn’t work out for Lockard.
“We still have 1,500 square feet available for lease in the building,” Jennings added. “Construction is starting now and tenants will open late this year or possibly early 2018.”
Lockard has been moving aggressively in South Texas. In March, the development firm opened the $70 million Outlets at Corpus Christi Bay in Robstown.
That new outlet mall offers 300,000 square feet of space.
