RGV mayors to meet with governor

RIO GRANDE VALLEY — Mayors from the Valley were expected to make their way north to meet with the governor today.

Mayors from all over the Valley were invited to Austin today to meet in person with Gov. Greg Abbott.

According to Laguna Vista City Manager Rolando Vela, they received word about the meeting Wednesday.

Vela said the goal is to learn more about Abbott’s concerns when it comes to the cities and how to work with him moving forward.

Several cities had committed to meeting including mayors from McAllen, Mission, Palmhurst, Laguna Vista, Edinburg and Palm Valley.

Abbott will only be meeting with the mayors and no other staff.

Elected and appointed city officials from the Valley have been gathering to talk about legislation the past two weeks.

Their goal is to understand the bills that are being passed in Austin.
