Dr. De Leon nominated for LifeChanger of the Year award

San Benito High School health science teacher Dr. Anabell De Leon has been nominated for the 2017-2018 national LifeChanger of the Year Award.

Sponsored by the National Life Group Foundation, the LifeChanger of the Year program recognizes and rewards the very best K-12 educators and school district employees across the United States who are making a difference in the lives of students by exemplifying excellence, positive influence and leadership.

Nominated anonymously by a colleague, Dr. De Leon has been part of the district for the past eight years and also serves as a board member of Health Occupations Students of America, or HOSA. Deleon was praised for her perseverance and commitment to her profession.

“I have seen Dr. De Leon staying late after school hours making sure that her assignments are prepared for the next day, making calls to parents regarding the child’s progress/regression in schoolwork, and providing the best tools available to students for them to maximize their learning abilities,” the nominator said. “I truly admire Dr. De Leon’s commitment.”

Each school year, LifeChanger of the Year receives hundreds of nominations from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. A total of 17 winners will receive various awards and cash prizes of up to $10,000 to be shared with their school/district.

Winners are chosen by a selection committee comprised of former winners and education professionals. Nominees must be K-12 teachers or school district employees. To be considered for an award, nominees must:
