SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — Police Chief Randy Smith has put out an APB notifying the public to join him and area law enforcement at the Island’s National Night Out.
“We aim to strengthen the bond between the community and local law enforcement agencies to prevent and reduce criminal activity,” Smith said.
Similar festivities have taken place around the Valley, but other agencies didn’t have the Island breeze or sounds of the calming beach to go along with all the fun and information police here have to share.
The community will have the opportunity to meet with officials from the South Padre Island Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies and businesses.
The Island’s celebration will include exhibits, educational activities, food, music, games and fun for all.
The event will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 3 at the South Padre Island Baptist Church parking lot, located at 107 W. Mesquite.
National Night Out was established in 1984 by Matt Peskin of the National Association of Town Watch and is celebrated across the country as a way for neighbors to come together and improve the safety of local communities.
Residents and business owners are encouraged to attend and get to know their neighbors and police officers.
“We look forward to meeting and greeting our community members,” Smith said.
