Walk held to fight lupus

Residents make their way around the trail at Pendleton Park yesterday morning in the Third Annual Walk to END Lupus Now & FUN RUN. The event is held by the Lupus Foundation of America, Texas Gulf Coast Chapter.

An estimated 100 participants took part in the event yesterday, with 70,000 walkers in more than 60 cities expected to participate nationwide. The local organization has so far raised $6,000 this year and is hoping to reach $7,000 before year’s end.

Funds collected are used to help with lupus research, under-insured lupus patients and education programs. There are more than 30,000 individuals in the Texas Gulf Coast region affected by lupus.
