Christmas gifts for children in Mexico

DONNA — Many children in Mexico are going without proper food, shelter and essential medical care every day.

That is one reason why Amigos de Los Ninos de Mexico, will be meeting starting Nov. 14 at First Methodist Church, 228 S. Main St. in Donna, to prepare for a Christmas Day celebration for kids in Nuevo Progreso.

Amigos de Los Ninos de Mexico (friends of the children of Mexico) was organized in 1990 to address this need — through gifts of friendship, love, food and presents to the children of Nuevo Progreso.

There are numerous ways to help, most of them start by attending one of the following meetings at the church.

Tuesday, Nov.14

Tuesday, Nov. 28

Tuesday, Dec. 12

Tuesday, Jan. 9

All meetings are held at 1:30 p.m. At that time, those in attendance can sign up for various committees and get information.

On Dec. 23, the items collected will be caravaned over to Nuevo Progreso and on Christmas Day, the party is held.

A follow-up meeting is held in January to elect new officers and board members.

Following is a list of the items that are needed:

– Crayons (24-box)

– Ruled notebooks (1 subject)

– No. 2 pencils not sharpened

– Stuffed toys, not more than 12 inches tall

– Toys for boys and girls

Bring the items to the meetings.
