With Halloween around the corner, children aren’t the only ones excited about dressing up in their favorite costumes.

So were the dogs.

Brownsville Animal Defense held its 4th annual Howl-O-Ween Extravaganza on Saturday at Catherine B. Stillman Dog Park, where pets and their owners enjoyed bouncers, games and a dog-training demonstration. Pet owners who dressed their lovable four-legged companions had the opportunity to enter them in a costume contest and take pictures with them at the Halloween-themed photo station.

Abigail Esparza, a member of Brownsville Animal Defense, said the best part of Howl-O-Ween is seeing the community come together and support dogs.

“Just ’cause it’s a bad area where there’s so much overpopulation, (and) seeing people who take care of their dogs and just embrace what a dog culture should be,” Esparza said. “And hopefully teaching people who don’t know how to take care of a dog.”
