South Padre seeks resident involvement on city boards

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — City leaders are looking for a few good men and women to join its city boards and help make important decisions for the Island.

“Serving on a committee or a board is a great way to give back to your community,” stated Susan Guthrie, city manager. “Community service is an investment to our community and the residents who live on the Island. Boards play an important role in the democratic process at the local level.”

She said the city encourages its residents to become actively involved in their local government.

Residents may apply to serve on one of many board and committees.

Residents can volunteer their time and expertise for the benefit of the community by recommending policy and planning for the Island’s future.

Anyone interested in serving on any of the city committees can complete an application and forward to City Secretary Susan Hill.

Applications are available at City Hall located at, 4601 Padre Blvd.


Currently, the city is looking for qualified volunteers to fill terms on the following committees:

– Board of Adjustments

– Board of Ethics

– Convention and Visitors Advisory Board

– Development Standards Review Task Force

– Economic Development Corporation

– Keep SPI Beautiful Committee

– Parks, Recreation & Beautification Committee

– Planning and Zoning Committee

– Shoreline Task Force
