Parents can monitor student grades on phone

LA FERIA — Parents can now access the latest news and information about the La Feria school district in the palm of their hand.

With just a few simple swipes on the phone, parents and students are just clicks away from finding information about student progress or what’s happening at their school.

The school district recently rolled out their first mobile application.

The app is a direct link to the district website. It is free to download on the Apple or Google Play store.

“We want to make sure we get our information out,” said Cathy Hernandez, La Feria ISD superintendent. “We want to keep our community informed and this is a way we can do it in one area.”

The app offers parents up-to-the-minute news from a particular school.

It also has direct links to the social media channels controlled by the district that offer more information about its students and schools.

The mobile application brings all the published district information, posts and articles on the website into one app.

“It’s going to be a lot more convenient for parents to get on instead of using a computer,” Hernandez said. “Everything they need is there.”

More importantly, a list of teachers, administrators and staff is also available on the application for parents to browse.

Parents and students can also access the district’s Skyward program that offers grade book information for parents to monitor student grades.

“We want to think outside the box with ways of getting information out about our district,” Hernandez said. “This is wonderful and it’s something the district parents have access to.”
