Train derailment: Crews repairing damage

HARLINGEN — Rio Grande Valley Switching company crew members have been working all morning and will continue into the afternoon to realign train tracks that were damaged after three train cars derailed yesterday late afternoon.

Officials said the repairs will be completed today and expect to reopen the Wilson Road.

At approximately 5 p.m. yesterday afternoon, the Harlingen Police Department was notified by the Union Pacific Railroad regarding a three-car derailment near Wilson Rd. & N. Commerce Street.

The report advised that all cargo was “dry cargo” and that there were no hazardous materials on board. There also were no injuries or other damage reported.

Streets have been closed off.

Officials anticipate the roads may remain closed until repairs are complete.
