Police briefs: police requesting help in theft investigation

Non-explosive device found

HARLINGEN — Local authorities responded to a call over the weekend to investigate a device that appeared to be a grenade.

On Sunday at approximately 10:39 a.m., Harlingen Police and Fire departments arrived at the 3800 block of S. Expressway 83 to investigate a possible explosive device found on a private parking lot.

According to police reports, contact was made with a male subject who found the device near the dumpsters while repairing his vehicle in the parking lot.

According to police, a safety perimeter was set around the location as a precaution.

Police said the device appeared to be a grenade.

The Brownsville Police Bomb Squad was called for assistance.

Once the Bomb Squad secured and took possession of the device, their investigation found the grenade was disassembled and posed no threat to the public.

Police said the incident remains under investigation.

BURGLARY ARREST

Jose Luis Sauceda was placed under arrest and charged with the burglary of a business after officers were called to investigate a burglary, according to a police report.

Harlingen officers responded to a business in the 100 block of West Jackson Avenue.

The manager of the business advised officers some unknown person had allegedly made entry into the business by breaking a window, and removing a television without consent.

When officers arrived in the area, a vehicle was seen in the alleyway behind the business.

According to police, officers made contact with a male subject identified as Sauceda who was an occupant of the vehicle.

During the course of the investigation, the television was recovered.

THEFT SUSPECT

Police are on the lookout for an unknown suspect who allegedly walked out of a store with stolen merchandise.

According to police, a Home Depot employee advised officers that an unknown male allegedly concealed merchandise under his clothing, and exited the business without making any attempt to pay for the merchandise.

Police reported the merchandise was valued at $99.

According to police the unknown male then fled the scene.

The theft occurred on Dec. 12 at 11:43 a.m.

The loss prevention officer at the Home Depot located at 4700 block of South Expressway 83 called the Harlingen Police Department to report a theft.
