Sheriff, DHS make three arrests

BROWNSVILLE — The Cameron County Sheriff’s Office assisted the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in the arrest of three individuals in the Brownsville Country Club area.

Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio said Priscilla Coronado Esquivel, 27, Jaime Genaro Melendez, 27, and Arvin Ramirez Rodriguez, 33, were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute marijuana.

harges were filed through federal court, the sheriff said.

Lucio said his office received calls due to a lot of vehicles coming in and out of a residence Tuesday night in the Brownsville Country Club area.

He said investigators reported several vehicles coming in at different times to the residence.

The sheriff’s office set up a surveillance detail Wednesday, and investigators followed a vehicle leaving the residence and stopped it due to a traffic violation, the sheriff said.

“Once they stopped the driver of the vehicle, the driver automatically told the officers he had some contraband in the back seat of his car,” Lucio said.

Investigators were allowed to search the vehicle and found 4 kilograms of cocaine, and then went to residence and found 2 more kilograms of cocaine, 74 pounds of marijuana and a gold-plated pistol, Lucio said.

Officials seized two vehicles in connection with the investigation, along with the pistol, he said.

Lucio said officials are still investigating.
