Summer reservations opens for Isla Blanca

Cameron County Parks and Recreation will kick off RV reservations for Isla Blanca Park and Andy Bowie County Park next week by keeping its doors and phone lines open for 12 hours on the initial day.

Summer reservations will be accepted in person at the Cameron County Parks and Recreation office at 33174 State Park Road 100 on South Padre Island or via phone starting at 8 a.m. Monday. Phone reservations can be made at (956) 761-5493, (956) 761-5494 or (956) 761-3700.The office will stay open until 8 p.m. and reopen for regular business hours on Tuesday.

“This is the first time that we’re going to extend the hours,” Parks Director Joe Vega said, “because we are expecting a large turnout on the 15th. We’re going to try and serve as many people as possible.”

Guests will be able to reserve RV slips for up to three months during the summer from May 1-Sept. 3.

Vega said the parks cannot accept winter reservations until a construction schedule for RV site improvements is in place.

Parking will be open at 6 a.m. Monday to customers who wish to make their reservations in person, and staff will issue numbered service tickets beginning at 7 a.m.

Only one reservation per person will be allowed. Reservations cannot be made on behalf of another person, and anyone found doing so risks losing their space. Guests must provide a valid form of identification.

Camping outside the registration office ahead of reservation opening day will not be permitted, according to a parks department news release, and park rangers will patrol the area.

Sixty RV spots of the 629 sites inside Isla Blanca Park have been designated as daily rentals and cannot be reserved for longer than two weeks.

The parks department urges guests to read the park space agreement before making a reservation in order to make the process faster. It is available online at and on the department’s Facebook page.

Cameron County revised its RV park reservation policy last year in hopes of making the process more equitable. Vega said the county hopes to launch an online reservation system in three to four months, and proposals from companies that could create the system are under review.
