Rotary to host 3rd annual Dog-On Music Festival

HARLINGEN — Ready to have a howling good time?

The Rotary Club of Harlingen will be hosting its 3rd Annual Dog-On Music Festival.

Free to the public, the event will feature a variety of vendors including adult beverages.

Tre Peacock, former president of the Rotary Club of Harlingen, began the event as a way to bring attention to the dog park.

“You’d be amazed at the number of people that don’t know we have a dog park,” Peacock said.

During his presidency with Rotary, Peacock wanted to complete a signature project that would benefit the community.

“We wanted to do a significant project,” Peacock said. “Something sustainable that we would be able to have for years.”

After a suggestion from a friend, he decided to work on creating the first dog park in Harlingen.

Peacock said he did not have a dog at the time, but remembers when he did have one, there were few places they could go.

“It was a big venture that was easily attainable through phases,” Peacock said.

The park began small with adjustments and additions added throughout the years to beautify the park and make it more pet-friendly.

Trees were planted and water fountains for adults and animals were installed.

Three years ago, the Rotary Club partnered with the city to put on the first Dog-On Music Festival to bring attention to the park.

“It’s mostly to bring awareness to the dog park,” Peacock said.

Due to some ordinance changes last year, the event was able to sell alcoholic beverages, something that will continue in the upcoming event.

Last year the event had nearly 400 people in attendance.

According to Peacock, the food trucks sold out of food.

Peacock said he is hoping for a similar turnout this year.
