HARLINGEN — Library programming events are not just for the children.
Beat the heat this summer with adult events and classes hosted by the Harlingen Public Library.
From classes on Microsoft Office to knitting and crafting, the library offers a wide array of activities for adults to participate in.
Adult programming coordinator Eva Bielicke said the events become increasingly popular during the summer months.
“Right now that it’s the summer it seems we have more in attendance, especially with the children’s program” Bielicke said. “It’s getting wild.”
Most events on the program have become common staples on the library calendar such as Knifty Knitters.
Bielicke said the Poetry Event is one of the most popular events the library hosts and is constantly bringing in new participants.
“It varies but poetry is one of my good ones that brings about 25 people in,” Bielicke said.
According to Bielicke, most of the classes and group meetings are on a consistent monthly basis done by outside organizations with the exception of the DIY classes.
“The DIY classes are my staff,” Bielicke said. “We are working on creating more DIY classes that people can do.”
Bielicke said July will be an especially crafty month with the addition of a canvas painting event and an origami class.
