Agency offers help for seniors with flood damage

WESLACO — Seniors facing residential cleanup for flood-damaged homes can apply for a new short-term assistance program.

The Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council’s Area Agency on Aging is taking applications for vulnerable seniors to help clean up flood damage.

Eligible individuals include those age 60 or above who live alone with limited support.

Upon qualifying, the aging agency will assign a representative to coordinate services that includes removing debris from homes, including damaged furniture, appliances, carpet and sheetrock.

The LRGVDC’s aging agency is coordinating with the Hidalgo County Community Service Agency to assist in identifying eligible seniors.
