A few thoughts concerning Betty Bonker’s letter, “Those entering U.S. illegally are criminals”: If your granddaughter is indicted for a misdemeanor she will not be jailed, let alone have her children removed.
Entering the U.S. without documentation is a misdemeanor. To enter while seeking asylum is not an offense that warrants any charge.
Here is an analogy to fit Ms. Bonker’s view of the world.
An abused spouse runs from his/her abuser and knocks on Ms. Bonker’s door seeking assistance (asylum) and Ms. Bonker shuts the door and calls the police to press trespassing (a misdemeanor) charges.
