High tides force closure of county beaches

Cameron County has temporarily closed a number of county beaches because of extremely high tides.

According to a news release from County Judge Eddie Trevino Jr., pedestrians and vehicles will not be allowed at County Beach Access No. 5, County Beach Access No. 6 and Boca Chica Beach.

Because of the high tides tourists will not be allowed to drive or swim at the closed areas.

Trevino is urging swimmers to listen to the advice of lifeguards as well as pay attention to the flag advisory system that warns of dangerous swimming situations.

All other county beaches, including Isla Blanca and Andy Bowie county parks remain open until further notice.
