HARLINGEN — It’s not every day a person turns 80 years old.
And it’s also not every day a person is honored with her own city proclamation.
Local philanthropist Lois Day was recognized on her birthday by Mayor Chris Boswell, naming March 28, 2019, Lois Day in the City of Harlingen.
Lois was celebrated yesterday for her lifetime of service at a luncheon attended by the mayor at Frankie Flav’s.
“The citizens of the City of Harlingen, Texas, wish to honor Mrs. Day for her passion and commitment, her example as a role model to other citizens of Harlingen, and her extraordinary record of public service to this community,” reads the city proclamation.
A resident of Harlingen since 1958, Lois currently serves as a board member of the Harlingen Concert Association and teaches yoga daily at the Rio Grande Valley Arts Studio on Jackson Street.
Along with her husband David, Lois raised her family in Harlingen while being involved in various local charities and civic boards.
