LETTER: We need to make our national debt a priority

Maybe it’s just me, but isn’t the country trillions of dollars in debt. Nobody seems to talk about it, nobody seems concerned.

And every day is gets worst. I can’t run my household in debt.

Well, I can for awhile but it always catches up to me. This brings me to my point. I don’t care if you are a Democrat, a Republican or somewhere in-between.

We cannot continue to shell out for everything (health care, colleges. etc.), at some point the bleeding has to stop.

Cameron County is getting $1.25 million for a eco-tourism center in Laguna Vista, part of a $16 million package released by TPWD.

SPI is getting $500,000 for a park, City of Elsa is getting $500,00 for a trail park. This was just today’s paper.

The list goes on, it’s almost daily. Question, if all of these grants are coming directly or indirectly from the US Government, what about the trillions of debt and if it’s coming from Texas, then I’m paying too much taxes.

Do we need another park, a trail, an eco-tourism center, etc. I would imagine this is going on all over the country.

At some point, lower our taxes and pay off the debt.

How long do we continue to kick the can down the road?

Do we really need another park or trail or building or fire truck or military jeep for the parade?
