A young Matamoros man is in federal custody after federal agents reportedly found nearly 100 pounds of methamphetamine in a pickup this weekend.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection says on Saturday officers on at the Veterans International Bridge ordered a secondary inspection for the tan 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup being driven by the 18-year-old Matamoros resident .
According to a CBP news release, a canine unit and non-intrusive inspection system of the truck found 54 packages of meth hidden within the vehicle.
In all, the narcotics weight 98.77 pounds and have a street value of $1,975,322.
The methamphetamine and pickup were sized by CBP and the teen was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents.
