SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — Equipped with gloves and trash bags at hand, hundreds of people are expected to scan the sand in hopes of making their community cleaner.
The Texas General Land Office Adopt-A-Beach Cleanup will take place this Saturday at 28 locations coast-wide across Texas.
City of South Padre Island officials are among those coordinating local beach cleanups.
The Island will host its annual Spring Beach Cleanup at Beach Access #3, Gulf Circle.
Registration will start at 8:30 a.m. and the cleanup will run from 9 a.m. to noon.
“Our jewel is our beach,” said City of South Padre Island Environmental Health Director Victor Baldovinos. “So, for us its super important that people from all over the state and especially in the Rio Grande Valley, to take ownership and take part in keeping South Padre Island beautiful.”
